The damage to the harbour has prompted Crown Estates, harbour owners, to issue this warning message.

Serious damage has been sustained to the east pier of the Portgordon Harbour caused by the extreme weather conditions experienced on the 5th and 6th of December. The structure is shortly to be cordoned off by safety fencing affixed to the concrete surface due to the risk it poses to the safety of any members of the public who might attempt to take access to the pier. The Crown Estate have sought specialist advice with regard to the assessment of the damage and possible future courses of action. In the meantime access is strictly prohibited to all persons, for their own safety.

Portgordon Community Harbour Group also urge people to keep away from the danger area. Please heed the warning and ensure any children that you are responsible for are made aware of the possible risks
